On Friday the 1st day of July, 2022, at 10:00am, the NBA National Treasurer, Mrs. Mercy Ijato Agada, Esq will launch her book titled: “SENSE OR SCAM? A Mother’s Letter to you”. President Olumide Akpata is the Chief Host of the event while Past President Augustine Alegeh is the Chief launcher.
Speaking to Spaceage Reports, Mrs. Mercy Agada explained that the book was born after a deep reflection on the moral decadence in society, misplaced youthful exuberance and loss of values exhibited by Nigeria’s young people.
She sadly noted that the fabric of society is on fire as acts of kidnapping, stealing, lying, fornication, rape and many other ills are being normalised today. She pointed out that fancy or code words had even been made up to describe these acts among perpetrators. She also observed that poverty is wrecking its own havoc on families and the effect is evident on students and young people.
Launched through her initiative, “The Social Good Initiative”, Mrs. Agada intends to use the book to intervene at the root of the decadence problem, beginning from secondary schools using advocacy, mentorship and charity to sensitise young people about their choices and the possible consequences that follow.
Prof. Agbo J. Madaki is the book reviewer while Chief Okey Wali, SAN, Past President of the Bar will be the Chairman of the occasion. Sule Ogwu Usman, SAN is the Vice Chairman of the launch.
Guest speakers at the event include past President, A. B. Mahmoud, SAN, Dr. Garba Tetengi, SAN, Mni, and Prof. Augustine Agom.
The Honourable Member of the House of Representatives representing Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency, Lady Blessing Onuh is expected as the Distinguished Guest of Honour.
In partnership with individuals and organisations, Mrs. Agada intends to use charity to gain the attention of young people, and then engage them in transformational processes.
To this end, the campaign will be taken to secondary schools and clubs will be set up in these schools where the Initiative, using the book, will train and continue to mentor young ones on the right path, in order to build a more resilient society founded on good integrity. These clubs will have membership benefits such as full or partial scholarship, provision of goods such as free sanitary towels for girls, books, local/inter-state excursion opportunities etc.
Hon. Mrs. Regina Agbo and Mrs. Zainab Agada are the mothers of the day while the fathers of the day are Engr. S. O. Agada, Dr. C. A. Agbo and Chief Oibiokpa Ogale.
The book is advisory in nature with stories of the author’s personal experiences and those of others sprinkled in to encourage young people stay on the straight and narrow path. Mrs. Mercy Agada expressed the hope that through the book she will impact the next generation of Nigerian leaders to positively develop the nation.
