1st Nigerian National Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Competition

The Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot court competition stands out as one of the most viable platforms for capacity building in Space Law for students globally. Since its Inception in 1992, the competition has brought together hundreds of students from different continental regions of the world to brainstorm and argue on fictitious and most often than not futuristic facts bothering on Space law. It is a way to arouse interest in the course and a means for students to network and learn with space lawyers, industry experts and fellow like minds.

The African regional round was first held in Pretoria, South Africa in 2012 and stands as one of the ways of creating awareness on space law and the space industry in Africa at Large.

This year, the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) in collaboration with the Learn Space Foundation (LSF) is set to organize the first ever National rounds of the competition in the continent for Interested Law Students in the country.

The competition is slated to hold from the 7th of February, 2022 to the 10th of February, 2022 at the NASRDA Headquarters, Obasanjo Space Centre, Airport Road, Abuja-FCT, Nigeria.

Delegates from Nigerian Universities will be expected to compete on the 2022 facts of the moot. The Competition will be judged based on Memorial scores and oral presentations.

The Winners of the National rounds will be sponsored at different levels to attend and participate in the Regional rounds of the competition scheduled for March, 2022.

Side activities such as a tour at the National Space Museum and mentorship sessions with industry experts will also be part of this groundbreaking initiative.

Eligibility to Compete

*All Undergraduate students of public and private recognised Faculties of Law in Nigeria

* Complete Registration of Institution made up of 3 Students and 1 Faculty advisor.

*Students should be in 200-500 level.

*Availability to be present at the Competition Physically

Submission of written memorials on or before the 28th of January, 2022.


Competition Dates: 14th -17th February, 2022 (14th being arrivals, 15th-16th competition proper and 17th being departure).

Dead line for Registration: 14th January, 2022 (That is, students can register from now till 14th when Registration closes).

Deadline for submission of Memorials: 2nd March, 2022.

Two easy steps to Register for the Competition

  1. Fill an online form indicating Your University’s interest in the competition, along side the name of students participants and the coach.
  2. Download and submit a Registration Form signed by your Faculty Advisor/Dean Indicating permission to so attend from your Faculty of Law.
They are limited slots available for registration of schools. Schools will be selected on a first come first serve basis .
