Dear elders, officers and members of NBA Eket Branch, I greet you.
I understand that your 2022 Bar week/Public lecture in honour of NBA President, Mr. Olumide Akpata, is set to hold from the 26th to the 30th of June, 2022. I wish that you have a great week.
The theme of your week, “Nigerian State and the crisis of governance: What hope for 2023 and beyond?” is a powerful one particularly because the nation is set to have her Presidential elections in 2023. The events of the past years have indeed shown that Nigeria is suffering from bad governance at all levels of government and the people are sadly bearing the brunt. It is therefore wonderful that NBA Eket recognises this and is set to discuss the issues surrounding governance in the nation.
As we approach the next elections, Nigerians must understand the need to hold their leaders accountable such that they know to take decisions only in the interest of the people and not for their private interests. Only then will the nation be taken out of this quagmire.
May the discussions and deliberations from this law week bring forth meaningful resolutions which will positively impact the nation in the coming months.
Long live NBA Eket.
